Hi Hilary,

There are 2 ways to get this fixed.
1) Uninstall it in Device Manager by uninstalling the printer from its relevant position in either print queues, or printers, or both. After uninstalling it in this manner (in order to leave the ports in place) proceed with the rest of the steps.

2) As you will need to set a port, I'd recommend using a fixed IP address for your printer, mine is set as a rule on my routers DHCP server, if you don't know what that is, then please consult HP's documentation to see how to configure the printers IP address during wired or wireless setup

After these two checks, follow this procedure

In Device manager, click Action, then add Legacy Hardware

Select the advanced option

Select Printers

Select the port that corresponds with your printers IP address

After clicking next, insert the CD that came with the printer into your CD-ROM drive, or create and mount an ISO of it.

Click "Have Disk"

Select the drive which you inserted the installation media into, then click OK

Select the "HP Officejet Pro 6830" Option from the list, then click OK

Select the "Replace the current driver" option

Give it a name, set your sharing preferences, and you should be good to go

You should now be able to print :)

I hope this helps.

I kept getting the blue screen with Driver Power State Failure error message and then my computer would restart. I found your product and it did not happen any more. I just purchased an anti-virus (kaspersky) and now it is doing it again. It is so frustrating. My computer is only 6 months old. It is a Asus desktop.
